History

Supporting families
since 2017

Inspired by their struggles as adoptive parents to a child with prenatal alcohol exposure, Lyn McMurry and Maggie Hodgson created a parent support group in the Dallas area in 2017.

By 2018, Julia Rivera and Angelle Gremillion joined their efforts and began calling the group “North Texas FASD Network.” Their mission was to provide support and resources for caregivers and to increase awareness of FASD in the community through education and advocacy.
This group of parent advocates filed for nonprofit status as “North Texas FASD Network in May 2020. By now, the group was hosting monthly caregiver support groups around North Texas, connecting with other relevant organizations and agencies to spread awareness, and offering presentations on FASD.

In 2021, the Board of Directors was expanded to 7 members to include professionals from the community with an interest in FASD joining the caregivers. In 2022, the nonprofit became the state affiliate of FASD United, joining a national network of organizations in the FASD community.

A state-wide need for broader support was confirmed in February 2023. The nonprofit changed the organization’s name to “Texas FASD Network” to represent all regions of Texas in our advocacy and education efforts. Additionally, the organization expanded the Board of Directors to fifteen members to include opportunity for caregivers, professionals, researchers, community members, and self-advocates.

In 2024, Texas FASD Network updated their brand and logo to represent the expanded mission statement and strategic plan to support our state-wide efforts.
